Micah Lasher (CAS '03) - Political Dealmaker & Policy Wonk

micah-lasher.jpgMicah C. Lasher, New York City native and CAS '03 graduate, is the chief negotiator for Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Recently, while working in Albany to further Mayor Bloomberg's educational agenda, he helped to write a bill that would make it possible to increase the number of charter schools in New York. This is but one of his many accomplishments. He has been active in city politics since high school, and was the youngest member of a neighborhood club of Democrats, campaigning for candidates since his teens. According to the New York Times,

Mr. Lasher, still plump-cheeked and bright-eyed, has yet to get a driver’s license. Despite his age, however, he has built an impressive résumé. He was a secret weapon to Manhattan politicians as a teenager, and in college he created a powerhouse consulting firm.

That firm, SKDKnickerbocker, created fliers for Barack Obama’s campaign, as well as advertisements and materials for city-based campaigns. According to the Times, he helped to manage 76 political campaigns while at the firm, and was successful in the majority of them. Having been involved in politics and campaigns from a young age, he is considering a run for City Council in the near future.
